Grade R CAPS Online Homeschol
A Grade R student is in their first year of school (also known as a Reception student). In 2002, the Revised National Curriculum Statement R-9 introduced the Grade R curriculum as part of the Foundation Phase Curriculum. The Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) documents were introduced in 2010. Grade R is now compulsory in South Africa.
Why is Grade R so important?
The purpose of Grade R was to prepare children for entering primary school in Grade 1. It is in Grade R that children are officially recognized as learners, in the language of schooling. As grade R learners move from mostly unstructured to structured learning, they begin to sit quietly and learn structured lessons with a formal curriculum.
