How SACAI works for Grade 10 to 12.
If your child is heading into the FET phase, SACAI is the body that assesses them toward matric. Here is what that means in practice.
Once your child reaches Grade 10, the FET phase, the qualification becomes very real: they are working toward the National Senior Certificate. The institute that makes that happen for homeschool and independent learners is SACAI.
What SACAI is
SACAI is the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute, an accredited assessment body. It sets the exams, moderates the marking, and issues results for independent and homeschool candidates, leading to the same National Senior Certificate awarded nationally.
Choosing subjects
In the FET phase your child takes four compulsory subjects, two languages, Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, and Life Orientation, and three electives from a wide list, building toward the NSC. Our team helps you build a valid, university-friendly combination.
How exams run
Formal assessments are written across the year and invigilated through the Invigilator App, a SACAI requirement from Grade 9. Grade 12 has its formal external examinations, with SACAI exam fees due on registration (a 50% deposit up front for the Grade 12 year).
What your child ends with
A National Senior Certificate: the recognised matric, accepted by South African universities and colleges. With the right subjects and results, it opens the same doors as a mainstream matric.
