Online homeschooling is exactly what it sounds like: your child follows a full school curriculum from home, taught through an online platform rather than in a physical classroom. In South Africa it has grown from a fringe choice into a mainstream one, for families who want more flexibility, a calmer pace, a safer environment, or simply a better fit for how their child learns.

Is online homeschooling recognised in South Africa?

Yes. Homeschooling is a legal, regulated form of education in South Africa. At Saving Grace, SACAI registration applies specifically to the FET Phase of the CAPS online school. CAPS FET learners in Grades 10 to 12 work toward the NSC, the matric certificate accepted by South African universities and colleges. Families who choose the Cambridge route work toward internationally recognised qualifications instead.

How a school day actually works

There is no bell and no fixed timetable. Your child works through video lessons and worksheets on an online platform, on a schedule that suits your family. Because it is self-paced, a ready learner can move ahead, and a child who needs longer on a topic gets it. Qualified teachers guide the learning and mark the work, so your child is supported, not left alone with a screen. Assessments are written online across the year, and you receive a report each term.

The curricula you can choose

Saving Grace is not a single-curriculum school. You choose the pathway that fits your child:

• CAPS, the national curriculum, Grade R to matric.
• Cambridge, internationally recognised, Reception to A Level.
• Remedial CAPS, the same curriculum re-paced to help a child catch up.
• Special Needs CAPS, the national curriculum with accommodations layered on.
• Purpose-built Special Needs online homeschool, a purpose-built programme for children who learn differently.

What it costs

Fees are a single monthly amount per grade, with no uniforms, no transport and no hidden extras. There is a once-off registration fee, and Grade 12 CAPS learners have SACAI exam costs on top. The full grid, and a calculator, live on the Fees page.

How to start

Enrolment takes about ten minutes online, and nothing is charged until you confirm. You choose the curriculum and grade, tell us about your child, and our team helps place them at the right level. For Grades 1 to 9 you can join any time; Grades 10 to 12 register per term.
