Decision guide

How to choose an online homeschool.

Not all online schools are equal. Here are the questions worth asking before you enrol, so you choose with your eyes open.

Choosing where your child learns is a big decision, and the marketing all sounds similar. These are the things that actually separate a good online school from a thin one. Ask them of any provider, including us.

1. Is it accredited, and who assesses?

Look for a clear assessment body. In South Africa that usually means SACAI for CAPS, leading to the National Senior Certificate, or an official Cambridge pathway. If a provider is vague about how your child is assessed and what qualification they end with, that is a red flag.

2. Which curricula can you choose?

A good school gives you options: the national curriculum, an international one, and support tracks for children who need to catch up or learn differently. One-size-fits-all rarely fits every child.

3. Are there real teachers?

There is a big difference between a platform that hands you videos and a school where qualified teachers guide and mark the work. Ask who supports your child, and how quickly they respond.

4. Is it genuinely self-paced?

Self-paced should mean a ready learner can move ahead and a struggling one gets more time, not just "watch these videos whenever". Ask how placement works, and whether a child can sit at different levels across subjects.

5. Are the fees clear?

You want one honest number, plus any exam costs, with no surprises. Ask what is included, what is once-off, and what a Grade 12 year actually costs. Transparent fees are a sign of a transparent school.

6. What support exists when things go wrong?

Tech breaks, life happens, questions come up. Ask about the help desk, response times, and whether there is a real person and, increasingly, an AI assistant, to help day or night.

How Saving Grace answers these. SACAI-assessed CAPS and official Cambridge; five curricula including remedial and special-needs; qualified teachers on every track; self-paced with placement by level; one clear monthly fee with a calculator; and support from both our team and Grace, our assistant. See for yourself.

Still weighing it up?

How do I know if online school suits my child?
If your child needs flexibility, a calmer pace, or a better fit than a classroom offers, it is worth a conversation. Ask Grace or our team and we will be honest about fit.
